Rensel-Chicago, Inc. was established in 1980 to purchase Singer Safety Company, a 1950 established manufacturer of Industrial Safety Equipment. Within the broad category of Industrial Safety, Singer Safety has national recognition and focuses on the niche area of "Industrial Barrier Protection". Products are most often used in retrofit applications and are designed for protection from Industrial hazards of heat, dust, flak, sparks, flash, molten metal and unwanted noise. Included are portable safety screens, track and roller partitions, strip doors and a wide range of industrial noise control products. In several of its product lines, Singer Safety Company has been an innovator and pioneer in response to growing concerns about safety in the work-place in the 1950's and 1960's. In industrial noise control, it was the developer of a unique line of basic products used today to reduce the harmful effects of industrial sound. That product category has provided attractive growth for the Company over the years.
As a manufacturer, Singer Safety Company sells nationwide and other markets in the Western Hemisphere and Western Europe. It markets through distributors and maintains a network of field sales representation in selected major markets and product categories.
Safe-T-Quip Corp. was organized as a new Rensel-Chicago activity in 1983. An outgrowth of the Company's expertise in a wide range of post-asbestos, high heat protective materials, Safe-T-Quip pioneered a growth area in special protection automotive under-hood including OEM and After Market applications. Products include heat reflection, insulative sleeving, and custom barriers for hose materials and other heat-vulnerable components. The need for special heat protection arose in the early 80's with smaller, tighter engine compartments, high compression engines, and catalytic converters. While the need has attracted competition, Safe-T-Quip remains a prominent name in this niche product area, among several competitors, and has several patented products, which have generated interest from automotive design engineers and "Tier-One" suppliers of hose assemblies. Safe-T-Quip has the distinction of the designation as a "Tier-One" Supplier of General Motors Corp., its largest customer.
